The "New Year" is here: 2025
A symbolic blank canvas waiting for your brushstrokes of intention, creativity, and purpose. Whether you're a fan of resolutions or prefer a more organic approach to growth (c'est moi), there’s something empowering about the idea of a fresh start. This year, I'm focusing on life rooted in mindfulness, gratitude, and realness (e.g. slowing down to be present with family that needs me).
How I spent NYE
At 29, I find the NYE a cash grab, overrated, overpopulated shindig that has less than zero interest. In other words, I didn't stay up for the new year. Instead, I got a good night's sleep and woke up early on the first. Since then I've had a couple bad moments, but all in all good days (and I'd bloody well hope so as we're only 10 days in). And I'm aiming for all good days with mindset and productivity. I don't think of the new year as a doover, but a continuum of my life. And I love organisation and the freshness of a new calendar. Now onto the heart of this ramble:
1. Setting Your Focus: The Power of Intentional Living
Before you dive into your goals, take a moment to reflect. What truly matters to you? Instead of a long list of resolutions, try choosing a guiding word or theme for the year. Maybe it’s “growth,” “joy", for me this year it's "alignment". This overarching focus can help you make decisions that align with your values and priorities.
Pro tip: Write your chosen word or theme somewhere visible—a journal, a sticky note on your mirror, or create a fun visual for your iPhone wallpaper.
2. Cultivating a Resilient Mindset
A new year often brings excitement, but it’s also normal to feel pressure or even self-doubt. That’s where mindset comes in. Embrace the idea that progress isn’t linear. Celebrate small wins and learn from setbacks. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination.
Mindset shift: Such an integral part of every moment is our mindset, how are we looking at the situation? Practice gratitude, especially in the hard times (hello screaming toddler). More on that below & in this post here.
3. Gratitude as a Daily Practice
Gratitude has the power to transform your perspective and amplify joy in your life. This year, make it a habit to pause and acknowledge the good—whether it’s a supportive friend, a stunning sunset, or a small win at work.
Action step: Start a gratitude journal. Each day, write down ten things you’re grateful for. e.g. Hot coffee, a cosy bed. They don’t have to be big; the beauty often lies in the little moments.
4. Embracing Travel as a Tool for Growth
Travel has a way of refreshing your perspective and fueling inspiration. Whether it’s a weekend getaway or an international adventure, exploring new places allows you to step out of your comfort zone and see the world—and yourself—in a new light.
Tip: If big trips aren’t in the budget this year, consider micro-adventures. Explore nearby towns, go hiking, or visit local museums. And do a quick goog on free stuff in your area. You'd be surprised how many community programs there are that don't cost a penny.
5. Budgeting with Purpose
While travel and new experiences are exciting, it’s equally important to keep your finances in check. This year, approach budgeting with intention. Think of it as a tool to support your dreams, not a restriction.
