Las Vegas - famous for world class casinos, entertainment & fine dining. Read our article here on the places to stay and eat on the Vegas strip. But for those who have been there, done that, or aren’t too into gambling and the excess that comes with the big casinos, this read is for you. Or maybe you like all that tomfoolery, but you’re in the mood for something new. Read on.

There is a Vegas apart from the casinos, a city with heart and character and natural beauty.

Begin the day in the Arts District. Grab a coffee at Vesta. They roast their own beans and have a seasonal menu of drinks that inspire the taste buds. If feeling peckish, light fare is also offered. Explore the colourful blocks of vintage shops, galleries & quality eats.

Head west - Summerlin community is the on the Western edge of Las Vegas. Just beyond is Red Rocks Reserve. A taste of what Southern Utah offers, without the 2.5 hour drive (check out my Southern Utah guide for where to go if you find yourself in SWU). You’ll need to pay a park entrance fee (National Parks pass accepted). It’s well worth it. Take the scenic loop drive through the park and stop as you go for photos or hikes. Be sure to bring water with you!

Lunch time - Head back into Summerlin to Nitaya’s Secret Kitchen, a Thai restaurant that is Michelin recognised and very worth the hype. We recommend trying several small bites (tapas style). Take a look at their current menu.

As the night rolls in and you head out, stop by Frankie's Tiki Room (just off the strip) for an authentic tiki bar experience. Open 24/7, anytime is the right time (so long as you're not driving, the drinks are strong!) for tiki drinks. Our recommendation is the Three Rum Scum. They also sell a cocktail book if you want to recreate the magic at home.
